What is Sigma Tau Delta?

Sigma Tau Delta in an international English honor society, with its central purpose to confer distinction for high achievement in English language, literature, and writing. Sigma Tau Delta is dedicated to fostering literacy and all aspects of the discipline of English.

Pittsburgh, Pa

Myself and a peer from our college had our papers accepted for the annual Sigma Tau Delta Convention held in Pittsburgh, PA in March of 2025.

During the Convention, we attending several workshops, readings of papers on a variety of topics from linguistics to poetry, and three keynote speakers. One of which was Benjamin Alire Saénz, the author of Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. The weekend concluded with the film adaptation of Saénz’s novel.

We also had the chance to read out our papers to a room of our peers, professors, and English academics. All presenters were placed in a panel of similar topic papers. Usually organized by author, region, or time period.

Other than scholarly work, Sigma Tau Delta also organized after hours poetry readings, trivia night, and an opportunity to meet with other members in our

Stephen Dedalus: Journey from Catholic Calling to True Vocation

The paper I presented critically examined Stephen Dedalus’ journey in James Joyce’s A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. My work focused on how Stephen’s upbringing within the Catholic Church significantly hindered his pursuit of his true vocation as an artist. Through a religious studies lens, I cataloged key moments in his life and analyzed their impact on his evolving identity and his struggle for artistic freedom.
